In the presence of our God,
as we gather here in Christ,
feel the Spirit breathe upon us,
the breath of life, graced and divine.

#ShortNews: Indian cardinal: Church in Asia is ‘100%’ behind Pope

The Archbishop of Mumbai and President of the Indian bishops, as well as the federation of the Asian bishops, was commenting on the scandal that has rocked the Universal Church and especially Pope Francis. Last week, returning from the World Meeting of Families held in Dublin, the Pontiff was accused of having been aware of the allegations of sexual abuse within the US Church and having been silent.

“The Church in Asia firmly supports the Holy Father. As president of the FABC [Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences], I reiterate that the Church in Asia is 100% on the side of Pope Francis.”

“There are many gaps in testimonies and there has been a clever use of words. Words are used with ambiguity. The testimonies are a coordinated effort to adulterate reality”.

In conclusion he affirms: “I hope that his Excellency understands the damage he has done to the Church. I am sure that the Holy Father has drawn his conclusions on this dossier and we are grateful that the Vicar of Christ chose not to respond “.

#ShortNews: Pope points to Christ’s silence in face of accusations

The Pope said that when Jesus arrived at the synagogue, he aroused curiosity. Everyone wanted to see the person they had heard was working miracles in other places. Instead of satisfying their curiosity, the Pope said, the Son of the Heavenly Father uses only “the Word of God”. This is the attitude Jesus adopted when confronting the devil. The Pope then said that Jesus’ humility opens the door to his first words meant to construct a bridge but instead sow doubt immediately changing the atmosphere “from peace to war”, from “amazement to fury”.

The Pope continued saying the truth is humble and silent and is not noisy, acknowledging that what Jesus did is not easy. However, “the dignity of the Christian is anchored in the power of God”. Even in a family, he said, there are times when division occurs because of “discussions on politics, sports, money”. Pope Francis recommends silence and prayer in these cases:

With people lacking good will, with people who only seek scandal, who seek only division, who seek only destruction, even within the family: silence, prayer.

#ShortNews: Accuse yourself, not others, Pope counsels Christians

We need to recognize that we are sinners: without learning to accuse ourselves, we cannot walk in the Christian life. That was the heart of Pope Francis’ message in the homily for the daily Mass at the Casa Santa Marta. The morning Eucharistic celebrations in the chapel at the papal residence recommenced Monday following the summer break.

And so that first step is also a grace: the grace of learning to accuse oneself, and not others:

“A sign that a person does not know, that a Christian does not know how to accuse himself is when he is accustomed to accusing others, to talking about others, to being nosy about the lives of others. And that is an ugly sign. Do I do this? It’s a good question to get to the heart [of things]. Today let us ask the Lord for the grace, the grace to find ourselves face to face with Him with this wonder that His presence gives; and the grace to feel that we are sinners, but concretely, and to say with Peter: ‘Depart from me, for I am a sinner’.”

50 Biblical Proofs That Jesus is God

Jesus is God the Son. He is the eternal, all-powerful, all-loving, self-existent Creator God.

John 1:1, 14 (RSV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . . [14] And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father.

This is one of the most well-known “proof texts”. Jesus is eternal (here, “beginning” means “eternity past”). He was with God the Father, and is God the Son. To make sure that the reader has no misunderstanding, John (v. 14) reiterates that the “Word” referred to is the Son, and notes that He “became flesh” (the incarnation). Only the Son has a body. The Word = Jesus = God.

John 10:30 I and the Father are one.

Jesus’ hearers, unbelieving Jews, certainly understood His intent in saying this, because they tried to stone Him, as the next verse informs us, since they didn’t believe His claim, which, if indeed untrue, would be intolerable blasphemy. 10:33 informs us that they tried to stone Him because (in their words) “you, being a man, make yourself God.”

John 20:28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”

This had to do with the famous “Doubting Thomas” incident. Thomas didn’t believe Jesus had risen, so Jesus appeared for His sake and told him to touch the wound in His side. Blessed Mary Stella and Companions

When life is built on and around love, it has a special kind of strength, even in the most difficult kind of circumstances. It has the resilience of steel without being stoic; it has a flexibility to shape to the challenges, without closing in on itself; it embraces the harshness of everyday realities, because it grasps a meaning of love that outlasts death.

One example of such heroic love is found in the story of Sister Stella and her ten companions, Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, the martyrs of Nowogródek. Their story of love and resilience begins when the first group of Sisters arrived in Nowogródek on 4 September 1929. At the time, Nowogródek was a small town in the eastern part of the Republic of Poland, now known as Belarus. This town embraced a diversity of people, including Belarusians, Russians, Poles, Jews, Muslims and others. When the Sisters arrived, they were not universally welcomed.

Establishing themselves in the convent under the patronage of Christ the King, the Sisters worked strenuously to identify the local needs they could address. Initially the Sisters opened a school which was linked with the Church of the Transfiguration, called Biala Fara meaning the White Church. The school was open to Christians and non-Christians. With tenacity they approached the challenges of this new apostolic work, and with the same fervour the lived their religious and community life, providing a witness of a live filled with faith, hope and love.
